Royals 2, A's 1
Truck whiffs 14 in debut
Pat "Truck" Moriarty fanned 14 A's batters and got a clutch 2-run homer from Andy Lange to hang on and beat the A's, 2-1. A's pitcher Greg Lund pitched four perfect innings before allowing a single to Truck to lead off the fifth, then Lange's homer to left broke the scoreless tie. The A's threatened in the bottom of the sixth, when Tim Lange led off the inning with a full-count solo homer to left. An error would get the winning run to the plate, but Truck buckled down to strike out the side and preserve the win. Truck allowed only two hits and two walks to go with the 14 K's, while Lund pitched beautifully, fanning six, while only allowing the two 5th inning hits.
