Sky Hill Park – Eagan, MN
As juxtaposition to the high scoring Game 1, Game 2 provided an unexpected pitcher’s duel between the Yankee’s Rocky, and the Gotham’s Web Gem. Images of game 1 still fresh in their mind, the Yankees winced as Gotham’s rookie Jagr sent his 3rd of 4 homeruns, a two-run shot, over the fence in the top of the first. Rocky settled after the first inning and allowed only one additional earned run in six innings of work. Lack of run-support by the Yankees did not help. Web Gem mixed his speed and pitches in a highly effective display by the veteran. “I had a job to do and I was fortunate enough to have a few pitches working early. Jagr got me a lead and I didn’t want to waste it. I’ll take a 3-1 victory. A win is a win.”
Pitching was clearly the key to the Gotham’s start, but the story for the crowd was the newbie. Seemingly unfazed by his manager’s low expectations the newbie went 4 for 9 with 4 HRs, 6 RBIs. In a surprise move T. Legend did not make the rookie available for post-game interviews. “We need to make sure he gets home on time. Like all newbs he has a curfew, a house mother, and a wet nurse. He did well today, but it’s week 1. I hit a homerun tonight but nobody’s asking me how it felt. I didn’t get picked-off at first. I didn’t pull-up on a ball that should’ve been caught. He’s a newbie. I don’t care if he carried our team’s offense in game 2 tonight; he still has a lot to prove if he’s going to wear that uniform.”
The Gothams will try to continue their early season momentum next week against the 0-2 Marlins. The Yankees face the Pilots on Thursday, May 5th.
