Phillies 9, Royals 3
Shirls tees off to complete sweep
The Phils took advantage of four errors and ran away with their second win over the slumping Royals to complete a sweep with a 9-3 win. Shirls took matters into his own hands in this one. With the Royals ahead 3-2, Shirls plated two with a base hit to make it 4-3 Phils, then hit a 2-run HR and a 3-run HR in the fifth to make it a 9-3 ballgame. Shirls had 7 RBI in this one. Shirls (5-2) picked up the win in this one as well, and while it wasn't his most effective outing of the year, it got the job done. Shirls allowed eight hits and five walks, but fanned nine to get the victory. Dave (0-1) had to make a spot start and held his own until the late innings. Dave allowed nine hits and struck out one, walking five. Pace had a three-hit game for the Phils with a homer and 2 RBI.
