Semifinals: Game 5

A's 5, Brewers 2
A's shut down listless Crew for Series berth!
Behind the strong pitching of Mathis, and key homers by Mathis and Larry, the A's stopped the surging Brewers dead in their tracks with a convincing 5-2 win, earning the right to face the Twins in the World Series. The Brewers, momentum on their side, seemed listless in this one as Mathis' pitching easily kept the Brewers' bats at bay. While Mathis only allowed one hit and no runs through four, the A's bats clicked. Larry's 2-run homer put the A's up 2-0 after two, and Mathis' 3-run bomb off reliever Joe put them up 5-0 after four. The wind out of their sails, the Brew rallied for single runs in the fifth and sixth, but it would not be enough as the A's moved on to World Series play. Hendi made the start for the Brewers and allowed 3 runs in his 3 1/3 innings. Joe went the rest of the way and allowed 2 more runs.
