Pitching/Defense:
One of the best Hopkins has to offer, Shirls just keeps on getting tougher as the years go by. When he’s pounding the zone with his curve and sinker, batters no longer have the luxury of looking rise and are forced to get defensive. He works fast and sends opponents packing in a hurry.
Batting/Baserunning
Someone you never want at the plate with runners on base. Shirls is disciplined and very difficult to strike out. Opponents are forced to pitch him tough though, as he has the strength to do some serious damage if a pitcher gets lazy and leaves one up over the zone.
2007 Outlook:
There’s probably room on his mantle for another Cy trophy, but success in his eyes will be measured with how deep the Pads can go in the playoffs.
