FINAL

  (5)
Game 1
Yankees 10, Royals 0 (5 inn, mercy)
Two words: Ug, lee.
It was as thorough and complete an ass-whipping as the Royals have suffered all season.  Scott's 2-run homer in the bottom of the 5th invoked the mercy rule, giving the Yanks a 10-0 win.  Luis Cota (6-3) dominated, allowing just a single up the right field line by Dave for the only hit. Cota fanned nine and walked two in his five innings of work. Andy Lange (0-1) did not fare so well.  With the Royals duo of starting pitchers out for the night, Andy made a spot start and struggled mightily with his control, allowing six hits and seven walks, striking out five in four innings. Old Man Dave came on in the fifth and got just one out before surrendering the winning HR.  Cota had a 2-run HR, and Gus had a 4-hit game for the Yanks.
