A's 6, Phillies 5
Controversy in A's win?
Pace started the game for the Phillies, but gave way to Shirls in the fourth in hopes of stopping the A's offensive surge. Shirls struck out the first batter he faced to get the second out of the inning before giving up a three-run blast to The Pirate. The Phils were able to mount a comeback scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The A's had the last word, though, scoring a run in the bottom sixth to hand Shirls (5-3) the loss. The Pirate (8-4) got the win despite giving up five runs off of seven hits, five of which were by Shirls who went 5-7 with two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI's. The Pirate led the A's offense going 2-10 with four runs scored and four RBI's.
