Schaffer's late 2-run blast lifts Cards to victory
Off all the hype heaped on the Cards before the season, perhaps the most overlooked was Dan Schaffer.  However, it was Dan who put the Cards on top, launching a two-run homer off Al Leverty (0-1) in the bottom of the fifth to give them a 7-6 win as they took the field at the rink alone on Thursday night.  Despite giving the Mets a 4-spot in the first inning and being down 6-1 after the top of the 3rd inning, "Steve 2" Kennedy settled down and kept his crew in the game, allowing four hits, walking six and striking out seven.  The Cards battled back, however, plating three in the 4th to cut it to 6-5 (courtesy of four Leverty walks), and Schaffer's homer provided the winning margin, as Steve2 buckled down in the last of the sixth to get the dubya.
