FINAL

Game 1
sm_cardinals02sm_mets02Cardinals 4, Mets 3
Cards scrape together 2-run rally in sixth to pull another one out
With a resourceful and opportunistic sixth inning by the Cards, they used a single, a walk, and some baserunning gambles to post two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead, and "Steve1" Stangler came on with one out in the last of the sixth to get the save and preserve the win for preseason darling Demetrius Matthews (1-0).  Again, the Mets seemed in control behind the pitching of big Bob McDonough (0-1), as the Mets put up three in the last of the 4th to go up 3-1, thanks in part to consecutive hits by Al and Tony Thompson. After cutting it to 3-2 in the fifth with a manufactured run, the Cards put together their sixth inning rally with timely hitting and deft baserunning.  Demetrius ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth as darkness crept in. After getting the first out, Tony singled and Bob walked for the Mets, putting the potential winning run on base with only one out.  The Cards then turned to Steve1 to try and save it, and he succeeded under pressure by fanning Al and Tony consecutively to preserve the win and the sweep for the Cards.
